OrrVilla Maple
Terrace, an assisted living facility in Orrville, was recently listed
as one of the “Top Thirty Ohio
Residential Care Facilities for Resident Satisfaction” for 2007.
Residents of 514 Residential Care Facilities (also known as assisted
living facilities) participated in the first ever resident satisfaction
survey of its kind in the nation. Maple Terrace had an overall satisfaction
score of 97.5%, well above the state average score of 91.7%.
The survey was conducted between July and December of 2007 by Vital
Research LLC, under contract and the auspices of the Ohio Department
of Aging. Approximately 9,200 residents state-wide were interviewed
face-to-face, and were asked to rate their satisfaction on a number
of factors, including activities, choice, care and services, employee
relations, employee responsiveness, meals and dining, laundry, and
general satisfaction.
In addition, researchers identified two key questions for residents
to consider: “Overall, do you like living here?” and “Would
you recommend this place to this place to a family member or friend?” Twenty
four facilities were listed as having received a perfect score of 100
on both questions. Maple Terrace was on this list as well, making it
one of only 10 facilities in the state (and the only facility in Wayne
County) to make both lists.
“
We are absolutely thrilled and humbled by this report,” said
George Bixler, Executive Director for OrrVilla Retirement Community. “Results
like this are possible only through a concerted group effort by every
single OrrVilla staff person. It’s a testament to the caring,
competence and cooperative teamwork our staff exhibits on a daily basis.
We are genuinely grateful for our residents’ response, and sincerely
thank them for their kind words of affirmation.”
“
Assisted living is an alternative to nursing facility care that is
growing in popularity with today’s older people and their families,” said
Barbara E. Riley, director of the Department of Aging. “These
survey results show us that most assisted living providers in the state
are successfully meeting the expectations of their residents for a
high quality of life and care.”
“
Ohioans who are considering assisted living as an option for long-term
care now have another tool they can use to make informed decisions,” said
Beverly Laubert, the State Long-term Care Ombudsman, whose office oversaw
the survey. “Plus, these surveys help facilities identify things
they do well and things they could improve upon. All consumers of long-term
services and supports benefit from the information gathered.”
